FIRST DMV DUI SUSPENSION
The suspension will be for four months. After one month of the suspension you may request a restricted driver’s license that will allow you to drive to and from alcohol school and work. In order to obtain this status you must do the following:
- Enroll in the three month alcohol school. The phone number for the Oxnard Alcohol school is 981-9210, they can direct you to a closer school if needed. It is best to enroll just before your 30 day suspension ends. Alcohol school will electronically send proof of enrollment to DMV.
- Contact your insurance company and ask them to send a SR-22 to DMV. Make sure they do it right then.
- After 30 days from the start of your suspension you must go to DMV and pay $140 re-instatement fee. Once they verify that you have done the above you will receive a restricted drivers license.
NOTE: If you wait the entire four month suspension, DMV will not require you to enroll in alcohol school. The Court will likely order you to do 3 month alcohol school at the conclusion of your criminal case.
NOTE: If convicted in criminal court of the DUI then an additional two months will be added to your four month DMV suspension.
NOTE: If it is found true by the Court that you had a BAC over .20 at the time of driving and or the Court orders you to attend the NINE month alcohol school then your license will be suspended for EIGHT full months. You cannot get your license back until you have completed the NINE month school and waited eight months of your suspension. You must also provide the SR-22 and re-instatement fee.
